Uriah is an educator by trade. He has worked as a middle school social studies teacher and as an adjunct professor of political science. He currently works as a labor union organizer and was elected to the Saint Paul School Board in 2021.
He has served in Board Leadership for the entirety of his first term, serving as Treasurer and Vice-Chair. He has also served on critical Board Committees including the Board Budget Committee, the Policy Workgroup, the Executive Committee, the Superintendent Search Committee, and the Enrollment and Retention Committee.
Uriah lives on the East Side with his wife and son. He is in the process of earning a doctoral degree in Public Administration, focusing his studies on School Board governance. He is a member of the national korfball team, enjoys playing D&D with friends, and loves traveling to new places with his family.

Uriah wrote the district’s budget policy, which gives the community more say in district spending decisions. He expanded the Board’s public comment period and successfully advocated for livestreaming Committee of the Board meetings. He led the opposition to an anti-democratic governance model.

Uriah created the Board’s new governance model, which includes the development of student outcomes goals. He successfully advocated for Narcan to be available for students in need, the construction of gender-inclusive bathrooms, and the expansion of yellow bus services. He voted to enact culturally-inclusive policies, started the practice of making policies more gender-inclusive, voted to make Juneteenth a district holiday, and voted to adopt our first new math curriculum in decades. He has been a consistent advocate for small class sizes.

Uriah has been a progressive voice for us in SPPS and at the Capitol. He wrote the resolutions that made SPPS the first school district in the country to divest from fossil fuels and private prisons. He advocated at the Capitol for Paid Family Medical Leave as well as Unemployment Insurance for school workers.
